Prayers From The Upper Room

As I walked about in a busy mall, I suddenly had the impulse of going to the Record Bar, not planning to buy anything, just browse through albums and check out new stuff from my favorite artists.

I went straight to the Gospel section, looking to see if there’s an earlier Bukas Palad album that I would be interested in having (I already have their latest, Hindi Kita Malilimutan). I also looked for the first Lauds album by Arnel Aquino sj. Not being able to find one, I browsed some more. My eye caught a CD with a title “Prayers From The Upper Room”.

Napabili tuloy ako nang di oras.

Funny, usually I don’t buy out of impulse. But that night, the only logic was, I wanted to listen to the album, I had money, so I bought it. No guilt feeling (of having acted without thinking about it for like, ten times.) about anything.

Upper Room: the name of the place where Jesus had His Last Supper with His friends, where He washed their feet; where Mary and the apostles stayed after Jesus had died; where God manifested the different gifts He gave to the apostles through the Holy Spirit.

Also called the Cenacle.

Like I said before (The Nun-ny Diaries), God sometimes likes to amuse me. I know that Bubbles Bandojo is “Sr. Bubbles” (a nun) but I had no idea that Prayers From The Upper Room was a joint project of the Jesuit Music Ministry and the Congregation of the Religious of the Cenacle. And another thing, I fell in love with one of the songs in the album, “Pag-aalay ng Sarili” (see lyrics below and find out why). Super ganda. After a little research, I found out that Lionel Valdellon wrote the song for the Religious of the Cenacle! (May piyesa na nga ako e. Yay!)

Si Lord talaga!
Para na ba talaga ako sa ‘Yo?

Pag-aalay ng Sarili
(Lionel Valdellon)

Panginoong Hesus ako ay nakikiisa
sa ‘Yong walang hanggan at walang katapusang
‘sangkatauhang pag-aalay.

Nais kong ako’y maging alay mg ‘yong pag-ibig.
